Our Food Forest was first planted on Earthday April, 22nd, 2012. With the help of 50 UCLA students, 40 Uni students, and several members of our community came together to prepare and plant a west facing hillside for food bearing plants and medicinal herbs. It now is home to over 40 food bearing trees, many raised garden beds that students grown veggies in. Hundreds of butterfly weed has been donated by Emerson Middle School as they are transitioning into a new garden space. This collective effort to transfer this native habitat has been supported by hundreds of Uni and Emerson students. These new outdoor spaces has welcomed many new species of birds, butterflies, and other critters. It's amazing to have this kind of space and opportunity to create an outdoor learn-scape on a high school campus..
Our Food Forest and School Garden can be accessed from Barrington Ave. between Texas and Ohio Ave. It is the new, middle parking lot adjacent from 1400 Barrington Ave.
